Let's Talk Turkey

You can't see, smell, or taste harmful bacteria that may cause illness.
  • Wash your hands and surfaces often.

  • Set the oven temperature no lower than 325° F.

  • Be sure the turkey is completely thawed. Place turkey breast-side up on a flat wire rack in a shallow roasting pan.

  • For optimum safety, cook stuffing in a casserole.

  • Use a food thermometer to ensure poultry has reached 165° F throughout the product.

The "turducken", a deboned stuffed chicken inside a deboned stuffed duck inside a deboned stuffed turkey, is exceptionally risky and requires safe food handling and thorough cooking to prevent foodborne illness.
