PPPT Program status update
The intent of the Army Pregnancy Postpartum Physical Training (PPPT) Program is to implement a mandatory standardized Army-wide PPPT Program. The policy to make this happen was put in place with the update to AR 40-501,7-9,10 and the release of ALARACT 168 in July 2008. Revision to AR 350-1 and FM 21-20 is in progress and expect within FY09 and FY10 respectively. This will strengthen the ability of the program to be implemented as designed and approved. The specified proponent (MEDCOM through USACHPPM) is maintaining the PPPT educational materials and offers a train-the-trainer course for PPPT leadership. The functional proponents (local senior commanders) are working towards implementation within the standards set forth in the USACHPPM TG 255 series, Pregnancy Postpartum Physical Training Program Manuals. This is expected to take some time as new responsibilities are established and the challenges of ensuring adequate personnel are trained to fill the needs of the program and of educating leaders regarding PPPT are overcome. The Army Family Action Plan GOSC in January 2009 maintained issue #532 as "active" with the VCS recommending that PPPT be more completely marketed before the issue becomes "complete".
